What are the potential benefits of meeting with a therapist?
Regularly meeting with a therapist can provide you with a confidential space to meet and talk through any of the difficulties you may be facing. Therapy gives you a chance to process challenging memories, navigate current circumstances, and equip you with the tools you might need in order to move towards your personal goals.
What is the difference between a therapist and a case manager?
Your case manager can help you with overcoming several barriers that may be standing in the way between you and your goals. However, creating a case plan is frequently very oriented around completing tasks and problem-solving. Therapy on the other hand, deals more with emotional goals related to your overall wellness. At TGI your case managers and therapists both play a vital role in your journey towards stability and overall wellness.
What does confidentiality mean?
Confidentiality is an important aspect to Therapy. Keeping your information confidential means that the information you share with your therapist is kept private from any outside sources (such as TGI staff, your case manager, or any other networks of support) unless written permission is given by the client. Only rare exceptions related to safty apply.
Can my therapist collaborate with my other networks of support if I want them to?
Yes! TGI Therapists are able to disclose a limited amount of information regarding your treatment ONLY through receiving a Release of Information (ROI) form by the requesting party. If an ROI is requested, your therapist will first have a conversation with you regarding the purpose for the request, and determine whether it is appropriate to move forward with collaborating.
Can my therapist help me get approved for social security disbility income (SSDI)?
No. TGI Therapists are not associated with the Social Security Administration, nor are they able to provide the assessments necessary to get you approved for any kind of income related to the status of your mental or physical health. There are specified clinicians for these types of assessments. Your case manager is a great resource for getting you connected to the appropriate support.
Can therapy help me meet my probation, or legal requirements?
Yes! Regularly attending therapy may help you meet certain requirements related to probation, family law, or aid in providing further support for an open court case. To ensure you are able to count therapy towards these requirements, first speak with your probation officer or legal attending to see if that option is available. Keep in mind, TGI therapists can only provide proof that you have been regularly attenting meetings with a signature log, or a letter only disclosing the dates in which you have attended. TGI therapists will not testify on your behalf, or get involved in any legal matters.
Can my therapist write an ESA letter for me?
No. At this time, our therapists are NOT able to write letters approving for clients to have an Emotional Support Animal (ESA). If you would like to obtain an ESA letter for housing or other purposes, please talk to your primary care doctor.
